भीम रूप धरि असुर सँहारे। रामचंद्र के काज सँवारे॥

Meaning · English

Taking on a terrible form, he struck down the demons, and he set right the work of Ramachandra.

Bhim means terrible, huge, frightening to face. Rup is form. Hanuman takes that shape and destroys the asuras, the demons. In the Ramayana these are the rakshasas of Ravana's Lanka. The second half gives the reason. Kaj is work or task, and sanvare means set in order, made right. The killing is not for his own name. It finishes jobs that belong to Ramachandra, Rama whose name carries the moon. Valmiki's book of the war and the Lanka Kand of the Ramcharitmanas both show him felling demon warriors in battle.

Picture a tower crane on a building site. It is enormous and can swing tonnes of steel through the air, yet every beam lands exactly where the architect's drawing says. Hanuman's terrible size and force work the same way. Nothing is thrown about for show. All of it is placed to finish Rama's plan.

भयानक रूप धारण करके उन्होंने असुरों का संहार किया, और रामचंद्र के काम सँवारे।

भीम का अर्थ है भयानक, विशाल, जिसका सामना करना डरावना हो। रूप का अर्थ है आकार। हनुमान वही आकार धारण करते हैं और असुरों, यानी दानवों का नाश करते हैं। रामायण में ये रावण की लंका के राक्षस हैं। दूसरा आधा भाग कारण बताता है। काज का अर्थ है काम या कार्य, और सँवारे का अर्थ है व्यवस्थित किया, ठीक किया। यह संहार अपने नाम के लिए नहीं है। यह उन कामों को पूरा करता है जो रामचंद्र के हैं, उन राम के जिनके नाम में चंद्रमा बसता है। वाल्मीकि की रामायण का युद्धकांड और रामचरितमानस का लंकाकांड, दोनों उन्हें युद्ध में राक्षस योद्धाओं को गिराते हुए दिखाते हैं।

किसी निर्माण-स्थल पर खड़ी एक ऊँची क्रेन की कल्पना कीजिए। वह विशाल है और टनों लोहे को हवा में घुमा सकती है, फिर भी हर शहतीर ठीक वहीं उतरता है जहाँ वास्तुकार का नक्शा बताता है। हनुमान का भयानक आकार और बल भी इसी तरह काम करता है। दिखावे के लिए कुछ भी इधर-उधर नहीं फेंका जाता। सब कुछ राम की योजना पूरी करने के लिए ठीक जगह रखा जाता है।
