Meaning · English
Speak truth. Live by dharma. Keep reciting. Pay your teacher, then raise children. Never grow careless about truth, dharma, goodness, prosperity, learning, teaching, or rites for gods and ancestors.
These are rules for a householder, not a hermit. Truth is tied to speech: say what is so. Dharma is tied to action: do the right thing your duties ask of you. The student is also told to keep reciting what he memorized, settle his teacher's fee, and marry. Then one warning repeats, don't get careless, and it covers money and the rites for gods and ancestors as firmly as goodness. Prosperity is not treated as a distraction. Neglecting it counts as a lapse.
A parent at the station, handing over a packed bag and running through a last checklist: ticket, charger, call when you arrive. Each item is small, and the list comes fast because the train is pulling in. The teacher's charge works the same way: years of lessons shrunk into a few short lines the student can carry out the door.
