Meaning · English
I alone blow onward like the wind, taking hold of all the worlds. Past the sky, past this earth, so vast have I grown in my greatness.
Vak says no one pushes her. She moves the way wind moves, on its own, needing nothing behind it. As she goes she takes hold of every world, which Sāyaṇa reads as her bringing all beings into existence. Then she names the two largest things anyone can see, the sky and the earth, and says she reaches past both. Sky and earth stand for everything that has been made. Her greatness has grown to that size: all of it, and beyond it.
A voice in a stone courtyard: one person sings, and the sound fills every corner, reaches the walls, and carries out past them into the street. No one pushes it along. The singer stands in the courtyard, yet the song is larger than the courtyard. Vak is that voice, filling the worlds and reaching past their edges.
