Chanakya Niti 5.16
वृथा वृष्टिः समुद्रेषु वृथा तृप्तस्य भोजनम् ।
वृथा दानं समर्थस्य वृथा दीपो दिवापि च
Meaning · English
Rain on the sea is wasted. Food for one who is full is wasted. A gift to the powerful is wasted. A lamp in daylight is wasted.

समुद्र में बरसात बेकार है, पेट भरे को खाना बेकार है, समर्थ को दान बेकार है और दिन में दीया बेकार है।
