संकर सुवन केसरीनंदन। तेज प्रताप महा जग बंदन॥
Meaning · English
Child of Shankar, joy of Kesari, your blaze and your might are great; the whole world bows to you.
Shankar is Shiva. Calling Hanuman his child carries what many devotees hold: that Hanuman came from Shiva's own portion. Kesari is the monkey chief married to Anjani, and Hanuman is the son who gladdens him. Valmiki tells the birth through Jambavan: Anjana, Kesari's wife, bore him to the wind. So the line gives Hanuman a father in heaven and a father on earth. His tej is the light that comes off him. His pratap is the force that makes others give way. Both are great, and so the world bows.
Picture a dark hall when one stage light comes on. Nobody announces anything and nobody asks the crowd to turn, yet every head swings toward the light. Hanuman's radiance and might work the same way. The world's bow is not demanded of it. It is simply what happens when something that bright stands in the room.

शंकर के पुत्र, केसरी को आनंद देने वाले, तुम्हारा तेज और तुम्हारा प्रताप महान है; सारा संसार तुम्हें प्रणाम करता है।
शंकर ही शिव हैं। हनुमान को उनका पुत्र कहना वह बात लिए हुए है जिसे बहुत से भक्त मानते हैं: कि हनुमान शिव के अपने अंश से आए। केसरी वानरों के मुखिया हैं जिनका विवाह अंजनी से हुआ, और हनुमान वह पुत्र हैं जो उन्हें आनंद देते हैं। वाल्मीकि यह जन्म-कथा जाम्बवान के मुख से कहलाते हैं: केसरी की पत्नी अंजना ने उन्हें पवन से जन्म दिया। इस तरह यह पंक्ति हनुमान को एक पिता स्वर्ग में और एक पिता धरती पर देती है। उनका तेज वह प्रकाश है जो उनसे फूटता है। उनका प्रताप वह बल है जिसके आगे दूसरे हट जाते हैं। दोनों महान हैं, और इसीलिए संसार झुकता है।
एक अँधेरे सभागार की कल्पना कीजिए, जब मंच की एक बत्ती जल उठती है। कोई कुछ घोषणा नहीं करता और कोई भीड़ से मुड़ने को नहीं कहता, फिर भी हर सिर उस रोशनी की ओर घूम जाता है। हनुमान का तेज और प्रताप भी इसी तरह काम करते हैं। संसार का झुकना उससे माँगा नहीं जाता। यह बस वही है जो तब होता है जब कोई इतना उजला उस कक्ष में खड़ा हो।
