काते कान्ता धन गतचिन्ता वातुल किं तव नास्ति नियन्ता । त्रिजगति सज्जनसंगतिरेका भवति भवार्णवतरणे नौका
Meaning · English
Why fret over wife and wealth, wind-blown one? Have you no one to rein you in? In three worlds, only good company is a boat across the sea of becoming.
It opens with two blunt questions. Who, really, is your wife to you? And why does your thought keep running to money? Then it gives the listener a name: wind-blown, pushed from one worry to the next with nothing to hold you still. Is there nobody to rein you in? The answer is not more learning. It is people. The company of good people, and nothing else in any world, is the boat that gets anyone across the sea of being born and dying again.
Anyone who has walked beside a person with a slow, even stride knows what happens. Within a few minutes your own steps have matched theirs, though nobody asked. A restless mind kept near steady people picks up their pace the same way, with no one preaching at it, and gets carried along.

पत्नी और धन की चिंता क्यों करता है, ओ हवा में उड़ते फिरने वाले? क्या तुझ पर लगाम कसने वाला कोई नहीं? तीनों लोकों में केवल सज्जनों का संग ही भवसागर के पार ले जाने वाली नाव है।
यह दो सीधे सवालों से शुरू होता है। सच कहो तो तुम्हारी पत्नी तुम्हारी कौन है? और तुम्हारा मन बार-बार धन की ओर क्यों दौड़ता है? फिर यह सुनने वाले को एक नाम देता है: हवा में उड़ता हुआ, एक चिंता से दूसरी चिंता की ओर धकेला जाता हुआ, जिसके पास स्थिर रहने के लिए थामने को कुछ नहीं। क्या तुम पर लगाम कसने वाला कोई नहीं? उत्तर अधिक विद्या नहीं है। उत्तर है लोग। सज्जनों का संग, और किसी भी लोक में इसके सिवा कुछ नहीं, वह नाव है जो किसी को भी बार-बार जन्म लेने और मरने के सागर के पार ले जाती है।
