करचरणकृतं वाक्कायजं कर्मजं वा श्रवणनयनजं वा मानसं वापराधम् । विदितमविदितं वा सर्वमेतत् क्षमस्व जय जय करुणाब्धे श्री महादेव शम्भो
Meaning · English
Wrongs done by hands or feet, speech or body, deeds, ears, eyes or mind, known or unknown, forgive them all. Victory, ocean of compassion, great god Shambhu.
The worshipper goes through every way a wrong can happen. Hands and feet. Speech and the body. Actions themselves. What comes in through the ears and eyes. What stays in the mind. Then comes the key phrase: known or unknown. Some faults are noticed and remembered. Many slip by without a trace. Rather than sorting them, the worshipper asks pardon for the whole lot at once. Then he calls Shiva an ocean of compassion and the great god, and cries victory to him twice.
A cook who has just made a big meal wipes the whole counter, not only the spots where she saw something spill, because flour and drops of oil land everywhere. The prayer works the same way. It names the wrongs the worshipper can see, then sweeps in the unseen ones with a single phrase, known or unknown.
अर्थ · हिन्दी
हाथों या पैरों से, वाणी या शरीर से, कर्मों से, कानों, आँखों या मन से जो भी अपराध हुए हों, जाने या अनजाने, उन सबको क्षमा करो। जय हो, करुणा के सागर, महादेव शम्भु।
उपासक हर उस राह को गिनाता है जिससे कोई अपराध हो सकता है। हाथ और पैर। वाणी और शरीर। स्वयं कर्म। जो कानों और आँखों से भीतर आता है। जो मन में ठहरा रहता है। फिर आता है मुख्य वाक्यांश: जाने या अनजाने। कुछ दोष दिख जाते हैं और याद रह जाते हैं। बहुत-से बिना कोई निशान छोड़े निकल जाते हैं। उन्हें छाँटने के बजाय उपासक एक साथ सबके लिए क्षमा माँगता है। फिर वह शिव को करुणा का सागर और महादेव कहता है, और दो बार उनकी जय पुकारता है।
बड़ा भोजन बनाकर उठी रसोइया पूरा चौका पोंछती है, केवल वे जगहें नहीं जहाँ उसे कुछ गिरा दिखा था, क्योंकि आटा और तेल की बूँदें हर ओर जा गिरती हैं। यह प्रार्थना भी ऐसे ही काम करती है। यह उन अपराधों के नाम लेती है जिन्हें उपासक देख सकता है, फिर एक ही वाक्यांश में अनदेखे अपराधों को भी समेट लेती है, जाने या अनजाने।
