Meaning · English
Whoever recalls these four verses of service daily, or at dawn, noon and dusk, gains joy, radiance, a direct sight of the Lord, and at life's end, Kailasa.
The hymn now says what its own recitation brings. The practice is simple: remember the four verses of service, either once a day or at the three meeting points of the day, dawn, noon and dusk. Saying them is itself the inner worship they describe. Three things follow, by the hymn's own account. A happiness that shines. A sight of the Lord face to face, not only pictured. And at the end of life, a home on Kailasa, the mountain where Shiva lives.
A grandmother's handwritten recipe card, stained and folded, is not the meal. But each time someone reads it and cooks from it, the meal is made again in that kitchen. The four verses work the same way: recited each day, they set out the jewelled seat, the Himalayan water and the cloth in the mind of whoever says them.
