Meaning · English
Since this hymn makes plain that the Self is all, hearing, pondering, meditating on and chanting it brings, of itself, lordship with that great glory, and eightfold power unhindered.
The whole hymn has been pointing at one thing: the Self is everything. Because that has been laid out clearly, the hymn closes by naming what it does for whoever takes it up. It lists four ways: hearing it, turning its meaning over, sitting with it in meditation, and singing it. From these comes lordship. It is not seized. It arises of itself, together with the great glory of being the Self of all. Beyond that comes a power that unfolds eightfold and meets no obstruction.
Someone digging a well does not carry water into it. They dig, clear the stones, line the sides, and the water rises on its own from what was already under the ground. Hearing, pondering, meditating and chanting work like the digging. The lordship the hymn promises is not brought in from outside. It comes up of itself.
