Calling the Gita Mother
Gita Dhyanam 1
Meaning · English
Mother Gita, taught to Arjuna by Narayana himself, set down by old Vyasa in the Mahabharata's middle, eighteen chapters raining nectar of oneness, foe of rebirth: I dwell on you.
The singer turns to the Gita and speaks to her as a mother, then names what makes her trusted. Narayana himself taught her to Arjuna. Vyasa, the old sage, wrote her down in the middle of the Mahabharata. She runs to eighteen chapters. What she pours out is the nectar of non-duality, the teaching that reality is one, not two. And she stands against rebirth, the round of being born again and again. To her the singer says: I keep you in mind.
Picture a child in a crowded station who gets separated from her family. She does not read the signs or ask for directions. She looks for one face and reaches for one hand. Calling the Gita mother works the same way: the hymn treats the book less as a text to study and more as someone to turn to and hold onto.
