Meaning · English
Whoever reads these eight verses with a heart given to Govinda, calling his names, is washed clean by meditating on his lotus feet, and reaches Govinda, the nectar of joy within.
The closing verse is a promise about the hymn itself. Someone reads these eight verses with their mind handed over to Govinda and calls him by his names: the one who never slips, the sweet lord, the all-pervading one, Krishna, leader of the cowherd village. Two things follow. First comes a washing: dwelling on his feet is pictured as nectar-water that rinses away every wrong. Then comes an arrival, at Govinda, who is pure joy. The surprising word is the last one. The joy they reach was inside them all along.
Someone hunts the whole house for their reading glasses. They lift cushions and open drawers. Then they catch their reflection and find the glasses pushed up on their own head. The search was real, and so was the finding, but nothing had to travel. The reaching this hymn promises is like that: the singer arrives at a joy already sitting inside.
