Bowing Again and Again
Rama Raksha Stotram 35
Meaning · English
I bow again and again to Shri Rama, who takes away misfortunes, who gives every kind of good fortune, and who is the delight of the whole world.
Three things are said about Rama, then one thing is done. He takes away misfortunes, the times when things go wrong. He gives good fortune of every kind, not one kind but all. He is the delight of the world. His name itself comes from a word for giving joy, so the phrase echoes the name. Then the singer bows, and keeps bowing: again and again. The repetition is the point. One bow is not treated as enough.
Picture someone leaving a grandparent's house. They wave at the door, then turn at the gate and wave again, then once more at the corner of the street. Each wave says the same thing. That is the bow repeated here: thanks too large for a single gesture, so it keeps coming back.
