Meaning · English
Ghora Angirasa taught this to Devaki's son Krishna, who thirsted no more: at the end, hold three thoughts. You are undecaying, unfalling, breath's finest edge. Two Rig verses speak to this.
Ghora Angirasa gives Krishna a teaching, and the text says he was left without thirst: nothing more to want, nothing more to ask. Then comes advice for the last moments of life. Hold three statements about the self. First, you do not wear away. Second, you do not slip or fall from where you stand. Third, you are breath honed to its finest point, life at its sharpest edge. Two verses from the Rig Veda are then cited in support.
Picture moving day. The sofa goes, the boxes go, the pictures come off the walls, and by evening the rooms are bare. Yet the ground the house stands on has not moved an inch. At the end of a life, body and belongings are carried off. The three thoughts point to the ground that stays where it is.
