Meaning · English

In this city of Brahman is a small house shaped like a lotus, with a small space inside. What lies within that space is what to seek and to know.

The 'city of Brahman' is the body. Brahman is the reality the whole teaching points to, and the body is where it is said to live. Inside that city is a small house shaped like a lotus, which is the heart. Inside the heart is a small space. The teacher does not stop at the space. He points past it, to whatever is held within it, and says that this, and nothing else, is what to search for and understand.

Picture a large house with a small room tucked inside it, and a closed box sitting in that room. Someone walking through sees walls, doors and furniture, and never opens the box. The body is the house, the heart is the small room, and what the search is for sits inside the box.
