The Self Worth Seeking
Chandogya Upanishad 8.7.1

Meaning · English
The Self untouched by wrong, free of age, death, grief, hunger and thirst, whose wishes and resolves are real: seek it, know it. Finding it, one gains every world and wish.
Prajapati describes the Self mostly by what never touches it. Wrongdoing leaves no mark on it. It does not grow old or die. It feels no grief, no hunger, no thirst. Then come two positive marks. What it desires is real, and what it resolves is real, so nothing it wants is empty or mistaken. A Self like that is worth searching out and worth working to understand. The promise is stated plainly: whoever tracks it down and truly knows it reaches all worlds and gains all desires.
A cinema screen shows a whole life: a child grows old, a man goes hungry, a family weeps at a grave. When the lights come up, the screen is the same white cloth, unburned and unaged. Age, grief, hunger and death are like the film. The Self Prajapati describes is like the cloth they play across.
