Meaning · English
This self is Brahman, yet made of all it touches. Good action makes one good, bad action bad. Desire shapes resolve, resolve shapes deed, and the deed one does, one becomes.
The self is Brahman, the whole of what is. Yet in ordinary life it takes on whatever occupies it: thinking, breathing, seeing, the body's earth and water, wanting and not wanting, anger and calm, right and wrong. Then comes the chain. A desire settles into a resolve, a fixed intention. The resolve turns into an action. What a person does, they arrive at. Good and bad are not stamped on anyone in advance. People grow into them, one act at a time.
Picture a bare path worn across a lawn. No one planned it. One person cut the corner, then another, until the grass died and a track appeared that everyone now follows. That is how a person takes shape: a wish leads to a choice, the choice to a step, and enough steps leave a groove the person then walks in.
