Worst Sinner, Surest Remedy

Devi Aparadha Kshamapana Stotram 12

Meaning · English

There is no sinner equal to me, and no destroyer of sin equal to you. Knowing this, great Goddess, do whatever is fitting.

The poet sets two facts side by side. He is the worst wrongdoer there is. She is the strongest remover of wrongs there is. He does not argue his case or list good deeds to balance the bad. He simply states the match. Then he stops asking for anything specific. He calls her great Goddess and says do whatever is fitting, which hands the decision to her. The whole plea rests on the pairing itself: his need and her power fit each other exactly.

Someone carries a badly stained shirt to the one cleaner in town known for lifting any mark. They do not try to scrub it first. They lay it on the counter and leave the treatment to the expert. The poet does the same: he names how deep his stain is, names her skill, and leaves the method to her.
