What Steady Praise Brings
Kanakadhara Stotram 22
Meaning · English
Whoever praises Lakshmi daily with these hymns, the three Vedas in one, mother of three worlds, grows rich in virtue and fortune, their heart honored by the wise.
The hymn turns here to what the singing brings. The singer is someone who returns to these same verses day after day. The goddess is named in two ways. She is the three Vedas, the whole sacred word in one person, and she is mother of earth, sky and the worlds between. What such people receive is listed plainly: more good qualities, a large share of fortune, and a mind that thoughtful people come to respect. Fortune sits in the middle of that list, not at the top.
A path across a grass field appears only because someone walks the same line every day. One crossing leaves nothing. A season of crossings leaves a clear track that others can follow. The verse ties its promise to that same repetition: the qualities it names come to those who keep returning to these hymns, not to a single recital.
