The Universal Life Fire

Prashna Upanishad 1.7

Meaning · English

This is the universal fire that rises, taking on every possible form. It is the breath of life and the fire of existence, as described in the hymns.

The text describes a single energy that fuels everything. It identifies this as a universal fire that doesn't just stay in one place, but manifests in every living thing. It links the concept of physical fire with the breath of life, suggesting that the energy allowing a person to breathe is the same energy that powers the sun and the cosmos. It is a single force appearing in many different shapes.

Think of electricity running through a house. It is one single current, but it looks different depending on where it goes: it becomes light in a bulb, heat in a toaster, or sound in a speaker. This current is like the universal fire, one energy appearing as many different functions.
