Meaning · English

Salutations to the one who glows like molten gold, who is fire and the maker of all, who strikes down darkness, who is brilliance and the witness of the worlds.

Six names for the sun, each offered with a bow. He glows like gold just melted, that deep orange almost too bright to look at. He is fire itself, the heat in every flame. He is the maker of everything, the craftsman behind all that is made. He strikes darkness down, outright. He is plain brilliance. And he is the witness of the world: nothing done anywhere goes unseen by him.

Open the curtains on a sunny morning. Dust you never knew was there hangs in the beam, and every crumb on the table shows. The light did not add anything. It showed what was already present. That is the witness: the sun sees the world simply by shining on it, and darkness has no place left to stand.
