Meaning · English
Then the Sun, glad at heart and full of joy, looked at Rama. Knowing the end of the night-roamers' lord was near, he spoke from among the gods: hurry.
The hymn closes with an answer. Rama has been praying to the Sun, and now the Sun himself looks back at him. He is glad, and the text says it twice over: pleased in mind, and delighted through and through. He sees that Ravana, called here the lord of the night-roamers, is about to fall. Standing in the company of the gods, he gives Rama a single word: hurry. The moment Rama prayed for has arrived.
A runner stops at the trackside to catch breath before the last lap. The coach at the rail, watching the whole field, sees the race is open. No long talk, just one word: go. Rama has rested and prayed. The Sun, watching from among the gods, sees the opening and sends him on.
