Hanuman Answers Sita's Doubt

Rama would not delay if he knew; his arrows rise like sun on the demons' dark. Hanuman could carry her now, but has no order. Sita doubts; he grows mountain-huge, then small. A monkey has little strength; by Rama's power a tiny snake eats Garuda.

Three Awadhi words carry this passage. Sudhi is news, word of where someone is. Sandeha is doubt, here a heart-deep doubt and not a quarrel. Prabhupratap is the prabhu's glory, the strength that belongs to Rama and not to his servant. Hanuman first says that if Rama had word of her, he would not delay. Rama's arrows would rise on Janaki like a sun on the darkness of the demons. He says he could take her away today, but he has no order from Rama, and he swears on Rama's name. So she should keep patience a few days, because Rama will come with the monkeys, kill the demons and take her home. The three worlds, with Narada and others, will sing of it. Sita answers kindly. The monkeys are as small as he is, she says, and the demons are mighty warriors. Her heart holds great doubt. Hanuman then shows his body, huge as a golden mountain and fearsome in battle. Her trust comes, and he becomes small again. The doha gives his reason. A monkey has no great strength or wisdom. By Rama's power, the tiny snake eats Garuda. Reciters commonly hear Hanuman's humility in this: he shows the size, then names where it comes from.

A thin copper wire inside a wall can run every machine in a mill. The wire is not strong, and it is not the source. It is joined to the powerhouse. Hanuman is the wire in this picture, and Rama's power is the current that moves through him.
