Meaning · English
Keep Rama's feet in your heart and rule Lanka unshaken; be no stain on Pulastya's moon. Speech without Rama's name is bare; wealth turned from him drains like springless rivers. No one shields Rama's foe, not Shankar, Vishnu or Brahma. Drop pride; worship Raghunayak.
Three Awadhi words carry the passage. Abhimān is pride, the sense of being the one who owns and rules. Moh is delusion, sight clouded so that the wrong thing looks like the right one. Bimukh means face turned away, and the one who turns is called drohī, an enemy of Rama. Hanuman first offers Ravana a bargain. Keep Rama's lotus feet in the heart and Lanka stays his, firm and unmoved. He reminds Ravana that sage Pulastya's line is a spotless moon, and asks him not to become its dark spot. Then come three pictures. Speech without Rama's name does not shine, however clever. A beautiful woman wearing every jewel still looks wrong with no cloth on her. Wealth and rule held by someone turned away from Rama go as if never held, like rivers with no spring that dry up once the rains stop. Hanuman then makes a vow: no protector stands behind a man who opposes Rama, not Shankar, Vishnu or Brahma. The closing couplet gives the reason. Delusion is the root of much pain, and pride is its darkness. So he asks Ravana to give both up and worship Raghunayak, Rama, the ocean of mercy. The reciters hear this as an offer, not a threat. A door is held open for Ravana.
A kite flies high and bright above a field, and from below it looks free. But the string was cut, and no hand holds it. Its height is only the wind's lending, and it will drop. Power and wealth cut off from Rama, the passage says, are that kite.
