जामवन्त कह सुनु रघुराया । जा पर नाथ करहु तुम्ह दाया । ताहि सदा सुभ कुसल निरन्तर। सुर नर मुनि प्रसन्न ता ऊपर ॥१ । सोइ बिजई बिनई गुन-सागर । तासु सुजस त्रय लोक उजागर । प्रभु की कृपा भयउ सब काजू । जनम हमार सुफल भा आजू ॥२ । नाथ पवन-सुत कीन्हि जो करनी । सहसहु मुख न जाइ सो बरनी । पवन-तनय के चरित सुहाये। जामवन्त रघुपतिहि सुनाये ॥३ । सुनत कृपानिधि मन अति भाये । पुनि हनुमान हरषि हिय लाये । कहहु तात केहि भाँति जानकी। रहति करति रच्छा स्व प्रान की ॥४ । नाम पाहरू दिवस निसि, ध्यान तुम्हार कपाट । लोचन निज पद जन्त्रित, जाहिँ प्रान केहि बाट ॥३०

Meaning · English

Jambavan tells Rama: one you favor is always blessed, pleasing to gods, men and sages — an ocean of virtues, famed through the three worlds. He wins and stays humble; all this was your grace, our birth bore fruit today. Hanuman's deeds not even a thousand mouths could tell. Rama embraces him, asks how Sita guards her life. Hanuman answers: your name is the watch, meditation the door, her eyes, fixed on her own feet, the lock.

Three Awadhi words carry the teaching. Dāyā is kindness or compassion. Nāma is the name, here Rama's own name. Kapāṭa is a door-leaf, the wooden shutter that closes a house. The doha uses these words to build a small house around a life. Jambavan speaks first. He tells Rama that anyone he favours is always fortunate, and that gods, men and sages are pleased with that person. Such a person wins and is humble about it. Jambavan says their birth has borne fruit today, because the work is done by Rama's grace and not by their own strength. He then says Hanuman's deeds could not be told even with a thousand mouths, and he tells them to Rama anyway. Rama listens, is moved, and draws Hanuman to his chest. Then he asks how Janaki lives and protects her breath. Hanuman answers him in the doha. The name stands guard day and night. Meditation on Rama is the closed door. The eyes, fixed on her own feet, are the lock. The closing question, by what path could the life leave, means every exit is shut. Tulsidas gives the praise first and the question second. Credit goes to Rama before it goes to the messenger, and Sita's survival is shown as a kind of guarded devotion.

जाम्बवान राम से कहते हैं: जिस पर आप कृपा करते हैं वह सदा शुभ रहता है, देवता-मनुष्य-मुनि सब उससे प्रसन्न रहते हैं — वह गुणों का सागर और तीनों लोकों में विख्यात है। वह जीतता है और विनम्र रहता है; यह सब आपकी कृपा से हुआ, हमारा जन्म आज सफल हुआ। हनुमान के कर्म हज़ार मुखों से भी नहीं कहे जा सकते। राम उन्हें गले लगाते हैं और पूछते हैं कि सीता अपने प्राण कैसे बचाए रखती हैं। हनुमान उत्तर देते हैं: आपका नाम पहरेदार है, ध्यान द्वार है, और उनके अपने चरणों में लगी दृष्टि ताला है।
