Meaning · English
His singing is sweet, his drinking, his eating, his sleeping. His form is sweet, and the mark on his forehead. Everything about the Lord of sweetness is sweet.
Singing is an art; drinking, eating and sleeping are what everyone does every day. The poet sets them side by side and gives each the same word, sweet: the word for a taste on the tongue, not only a pleasing sight. A mouthful of food gets the praise a song gets. Then the list moves to how he looks: his whole form, and the mark painted on his forehead. The closing line calls him lord of sweetness, so nothing of his is left out.
A new mother can watch her baby sleep for an hour. She films it gulping milk and keeps the photo of its face smeared with food. None of this is a performance, yet she would not trade any of it. The poet looks at Krishna eating and sleeping with that same unguarded fondness.
