रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई। तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई॥
Meaning · English
The lord of the Raghus praised you greatly: you are as dear to me as Bharata, my brother.
Raghupati means lord of the Raghus, Rama's family line, so the speaker is Rama. Badai is praise, and bahut makes it a great deal of praise. Priy is dear. Bharat is Rama's younger brother. Valmiki tells how Bharata refused the throne Rama had lost and placed Rama's sandals on it instead. Rama gives Hanuman no gift and no title. He measures Hanuman against the brother who gave up a kingdom for him, and says his love for the two is the same.
At a family wedding, the host walks a neighbour past the guest tables and seats him at the family table, between his own brothers. That neighbour once drove the host's son to hospital in the middle of the night. The chair says what a speech could not. Rama does the same with words: Hanuman, who came as a servant, is given Bharata's place.

रघुओं के स्वामी ने तुम्हारी बहुत प्रशंसा की: तुम मुझे मेरे भाई भरत के समान प्रिय हो।
रघुपति का अर्थ है रघुओं का स्वामी, और रघु राम का कुल है, इसलिए बोलने वाले राम हैं। बड़ाई का अर्थ है प्रशंसा, और बहुत उसे भरपूर प्रशंसा बना देता है। प्रिय का अर्थ है प्यारा। भरत राम के छोटे भाई हैं। वाल्मीकि बताते हैं कि भरत ने वह सिंहासन ठुकरा दिया जो राम से छिन गया था, और उसकी जगह उस पर राम की पादुकाएँ रख दीं। राम हनुमान को न कोई उपहार देते हैं, न कोई उपाधि। वे हनुमान को उस भाई के बराबर रखते हैं जिसने उनके लिए राज्य त्याग दिया, और कहते हैं कि दोनों के प्रति उनका प्रेम एक-सा है।
परिवार की एक शादी में मेज़बान एक पड़ोसी को मेहमानों की मेज़ों के पास से ले जाकर परिवार की मेज़ पर, अपने ही भाइयों के बीच बिठाता है। उसी पड़ोसी ने कभी आधी रात को मेज़बान के बेटे को गाड़ी से अस्पताल पहुँचाया था। वह कुर्सी वह कह देती है जो कोई भाषण नहीं कह पाता। राम शब्दों से यही करते हैं: सेवक बनकर आए हनुमान को भरत का स्थान मिलता है।
