Meaning · English
A quilt stitched from street rags, a road past merit and demerit, a mind yoked in yoga: such a yogi delights like a child, like one gone mad.
The quilt of street rags says he no longer dresses to be seen. His road has gone past merit and demerit: he no longer keeps a ledger of good deeds earned and bad deeds owed. His mind is set in yoga and stays there. What comes of this is delight. From outside it looks like a child at play or a man gone mad, because it rests on nothing he wears and nothing he has earned.
On a crowded railway platform, travellers sit on their suitcases, one hand on the handle, eyes on the clock. One man has no bag at all. He sits on the bench swinging his feet, watching the pigeons. His ease comes from having nothing to guard, and the yogi's delight is that ease, carried everywhere.
