Every Comfort, One Service
Hanuman Chalisa 37
Meaning · English
Even one who keeps no other god in mind, serving Hanuman alone, is given every kind of happiness.
Take the words one at a time. Chitt is the mind, the place where attention settles. Dharai means to hold or keep there. Sei means serving, the plain service a devotee offers. Sarb sukh is all happiness, every kind of ease. Tulsidas is saying the devotee does not have to hold many deities in mind to be cared for. Steady service to Hanuman is enough, and every comfort comes from it. He does not speak against any other god. He says only what serving Hanuman gives.
Picture a village family with one deep well beside the house. They never dig in every field. That single well gives water for drinking, cooking, washing and the garden. Other wells exist in other yards. The family has simply learned that one is enough. Tulsidas sees the devotee the same way, with one steady place to turn and finding everything needed there.
