Sankatanashana Ganesha Stotram 5

Meaning · English

Whoever recites these twelve names at the three turning points of the day, dawn, noon and dusk, has no fear of obstacles. O Lord, it brings every accomplishment.

After the list comes the instruction. The twelve names are to be said at the three junctions of the day: sunrise, midday and sunset. That is three short recitations, spread across one day. The hymn then names what this brings. First, freedom from the fear of obstacles. It speaks of the fear, the dread of what might block the way, and not only of the blocks themselves. Second, every kind of accomplishment, work brought to completion. The closing word turns to Ganesha directly and calls him Lord.

Picture a school bell that rings at fixed hours. Nobody has to guess when the morning has ended or the afternoon has begun, because the bell marks each turn. The three recitations work like that bell. They sit at the day's turning points, so each new stretch of the day starts with the names already spoken.
