Meaning · English

A person made of mind, deathless and golden, lives in the space within the heart. Indra's path runs past the uvula, out through the crown, into fire, then wind.

Inside the chest is a small open space. Living in it is a person made of mind, a self that is awareness rather than flesh. The text calls it deathless and golden, meaning it shines. Then it maps a route. The path goes past the soft flap hanging at the back of the throat and up to the crown, where the hair parts. There it splits the two halves of the skull. That opening is named Indra's birthplace. Leaving by it, the self says the word for earth and stands in fire. It says the word for sky and stands in wind.

Picture a wood stove in a cabin. Smoke gathers in the firebox, climbs a narrow flue and slips out through a cap on the roof. Then it spreads into open air. The firebox is the space in the heart. The flue is the passage past the throat. The roof cap is the crown of the head. The open air is fire, then wind.
