Meaning · English

Waves of the heavenly river whirl in his hair's deep bowl; fire crackles on his forehead; a young moon crowns him. Each moment my joy is in him.

The singer looks up at Shiva's head and names what he sees. The matted hair is coiled so deep it works like a cauldron, and the river of the gods spins inside it, its waves trembling like vine tendrils. Lower down, on the broad plate of the forehead, a fire burns, and the words copy its crackle with a sound repeated three times. A young crescent moon sits on top. Then the singer says it plainly: every moment, my delight is in him.

Think of a small clay lamp set floating in a bowl of water at a festival. The water rocks and ripples, and the little flame keeps burning on top of it. One bowl holds both. That is Shiva's head here: whirling water and live fire held together, neither putting the other out.
