Meaning · English
He came to know that Brahman is joy. From joy beings are born, by joy they live, and into joy they return. Whoever knows this stands firm.
Bhrigu's last answer is that the ground of everything is joy. Not a passing mood, but the fullness left when everything else has been looked through. Beings come out of it, are kept alive by it, and go back into it at the end. The text calls this Bhrigu's teaching, learned from Varuna, resting in the highest space. Whoever knows it stands firm. The text lists what follows: plenty of food and the appetite to enjoy it, children, cattle, the glow of learning, and a good name.
Ice cubes floating in a glass of water are made of water, held up by water, and melt back into it. Nothing in the glass is anything but water in another shape. Beings stand to joy the same way: shaped from it, carried by it, and returned to it without remainder.
