Meaning · English
The Lord upholds the woven world, passing and lasting, seen and unseen. The self, not in command, is bound by tasting experience; knowing God, it is freed from every bond.
The world is a mix. Some of it wears out and some of it does not. Some of it shows and some of it stays hidden. One ruler, called the Lord, carries the whole mix. The individual self is described as not the ruler. It gets tied down because it takes the part of the enjoyer, the one who consumes what happens to it. The way out is knowing God, the shining one. That knowing loosens all the ties at once, not one at a time.
A fish circles a baited hook. The bait is real food and the fish is really hungry, so eating is exactly what catches it. The bait is experience, and the line is the bond that comes from tasting it. The hand at the top of the line, out of the fish's sight, is the one who holds the whole scene.
