Shvetashvatara Upanishad 1.15
तिलेषु तैलं दधिनीव सर्पिरापः स्रोतःस्वरणीषु चाग्निः । एवमात्माऽत्मनि गृह्यतेऽसौ सत्येनैनं तपसा योऽनुपश्यति
Meaning · English
Like oil in sesame, ghee in curd, water in a riverbed, fire in the fire-sticks, the Self is found within oneself by whoever seeks it through truth and discipline.
Four things sit unseen inside something else: oil in sesame seeds, ghee in curd, water beneath a riverbed, fire in wood. Each is fully there, yet comes out only with work: pressing, churning, digging, rubbing. The Self sits inside a person in the same way. It is grasped there, within, and not somewhere outside. The work is named too. Truthfulness is one part. Tapas is the other: disciplined effort, the steady heat of practice. Whoever keeps looking with both sees it.
An orange in the hand shows no juice. The peel is dry. Squeeze it over a glass and juice runs out until the glass is half full. The squeezing made none of it; it was inside the whole time. The Self is like that juice, and truthful, disciplined effort is the squeeze.

जैसे तिल में तेल, दही में घी, नदी की तलहटी में जल और अरणि की लकड़ियों में आग छिपी रहती है, वैसे ही जो सत्य और तप से खोजता है, वह आत्मा को अपने ही भीतर पा लेता है।
चार चीज़ें किसी दूसरी चीज़ के भीतर अनदेखी रहती हैं: तिल में तेल, दही में घी, नदी की तलहटी के नीचे जल, लकड़ी में आग। हर एक वहाँ पूरी की पूरी है, फिर भी मेहनत से ही बाहर आती है: पेरने से, मथने से, खोदने से, रगड़ने से। आत्मा भी मनुष्य के भीतर ऐसे ही रहती है। उसे वहीं, भीतर ही पाया जाता है, कहीं बाहर नहीं। वह मेहनत भी बताई गई है। सच्चाई उसका एक भाग है। तप दूसरा भाग है: अनुशासित प्रयास, साधना की लगातार तपन। जो इन दोनों के साथ खोजता रहता है, वह उसे देख लेता है।
हाथ में रखे संतरे में रस दिखाई नहीं देता। छिलका सूखा होता है। उसे गिलास के ऊपर निचोड़ो तो रस बहने लगता है और गिलास आधा भर जाता है। निचोड़ने ने उसमें से कुछ भी पैदा नहीं किया; वह पूरे समय भीतर ही था। आत्मा उस रस जैसी है, और सच्चा, अनुशासित प्रयास वह निचोड़ना है।
