Inner Powers Sent Upward
Shvetashvatara Upanishad 2.3
युक्त्वाय मनसा देवान् सुवर्यतो धिया दिवम् । बृहज्ज्योतिः करिष्यतः सविता प्रसुवाति तान्
Meaning · English
Once the mind has harnessed the inner powers, which rise toward heaven through thought, may Savitri set them moving, so they make a great brightness.
The 'gods' named at the start are best taken as a person's own powers: sight, hearing and the other senses and faculties. The mind gathers them into one. Thought then carries them upward, toward heaven, the bright sky-world. Savitri is the sun in its role as the one who sets things moving. The request is that he send these gathered powers on. The stated goal is a great brightness. The gathering is the person's own work. The forward push is asked for.
Hold a magnifying glass under a summer sun and tilt it until the scattered light shrinks to one white-hot point. The glass makes no light of its own. It only gathers. The mind gathers the senses and thoughts in the same way, Savitri supplies the force behind them, and the bright point is the great light the verse hopes for.

जब मन उन भीतरी शक्तियों को जोत लेता है जो विचार के सहारे स्वर्ग की ओर उठती हैं, तब सविता उन्हें गति दे, ताकि वे एक महान प्रकाश रचें।
आरंभ में जिन 'देवताओं' का नाम आया है, उन्हें व्यक्ति की अपनी शक्तियाँ मानना सबसे उचित है: देखना, सुनना और अन्य इंद्रियाँ तथा क्षमताएँ। मन उन्हें एक साथ समेटता है। फिर विचार उन्हें ऊपर की ओर, स्वर्ग की ओर, उस उज्ज्वल आकाश-लोक की ओर ले जाता है। सविता सूर्य है, अपने उस रूप में जिसमें वह सबको गति देता है। प्रार्थना यह है कि वह इन समेटी हुई शक्तियों को आगे बढ़ाए। बताया गया लक्ष्य एक महान प्रकाश है। समेटना व्यक्ति का अपना काम है। आगे बढ़ाने वाला बल माँगा गया है।
गर्मियों की धूप में एक आवर्धक लेंस थामिए और उसे तब तक झुकाइए जब तक बिखरी हुई रोशनी सिमटकर एक सफेद, दहकते बिंदु में न बदल जाए। लेंस अपना कोई प्रकाश नहीं बनाता। वह केवल समेटता है। मन भी इसी तरह इंद्रियों और विचारों को समेटता है, सविता उनके पीछे का बल देता है, और वह उज्ज्वल बिंदु ही वह महान प्रकाश है जिसकी आशा यह मंत्र करता है।
