Meaning · English
Giver of life's joys and release, lovely in form, tender to devotees, his body all the worlds, golden bells chiming at his waist: I worship Kalabhairava, lord of Kashi.
He gives two things people often think pull against each other: the good things of this life, and freedom from the whole round of it. His form is praised and lovely to look at. He is fond of the ones who love him, the way a cow is fond of her calf. He stands steady, and his body is every world there is. Then the eye drops to one small detail: a golden belt of little bells at his waist, ringing sweetly as he moves.
A child in a big old house knows her grandfather is coming before she sees him. The keys on his belt jingle down the hallway. Every room in that house is his, yet the small sound is what tells her he is near. The worlds are his body; the bells are how he comes close.
