न च प्राणसंज्ञो न वै पञ्चवायुर्न वा सप्तधातुर्न वा पञ्चकोशः । न वाक्पाणिपादं न चोपस्थपायू चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहं शिवोऽहम्
Meaning · English
I am not breath or the five vital airs, not the seven tissues or five sheaths, not speech, hands, feet, or the lower organs. I am consciousness and joy: Shiva.
The list walks through everything that keeps a body going. Breath, the life force itself. Breath's five currents moving inside. The seven tissues the body is built from, blood and flesh down to bone and marrow. The five sheaths, layer inside layer. Then the working parts: mouth that speaks, hands that hold, feet that walk, organs of birth and waste. None of them is the one saying 'I'. What is left is awareness and joy, and that is Shiva.
A car has an engine, fuel lines, a steel frame, wheels and a horn. The driver relies on every part and is none of them. Park it, step out, and the driver is still there, whole. Breath, tissues and limbs are the car. The awareness using them is the driver.

मैं न साँस हूँ, न पाँच प्राण, न सात धातुएँ, न पाँच कोश, न वाणी, न हाथ, न पैर, न निचली इंद्रियाँ। मैं चेतना और आनंद हूँ: शिव।
यह सूची उस सब कुछ से होकर गुज़रती है जो शरीर को चलाए रखता है। साँस, स्वयं जीवन-शक्ति। साँस की पाँच धाराएँ, जो भीतर बहती हैं। सात धातुएँ जिनसे शरीर बना है, रक्त और मांस से लेकर हड्डी और मज्जा तक। पाँच कोश, परत के भीतर परत। फिर काम करने वाले अंग: बोलने वाला मुख, पकड़ने वाले हाथ, चलने वाले पैर, जनन और मल-त्याग के अंग। इनमें से कोई भी वह नहीं जो 'मैं' कह रहा है। जो बचता है वह चेतना और आनंद है, और वही शिव है।
एक गाड़ी में इंजन होता है, ईंधन की नलियाँ, इस्पात का ढाँचा, पहिए और भोंपू। चालक हर पुर्ज़े पर निर्भर है, पर वह उनमें से कोई नहीं है। गाड़ी खड़ी करो, बाहर उतरो, और चालक फिर भी वहीं है, पूरा का पूरा। साँस, धातुएँ और अंग गाड़ी हैं। उन्हें बरतने वाली चेतना चालक है।
