न मे द्वेषरागौ न मे लोभमोहौ मदो नैव मे नैव मात्सर्यभावः । न धर्मो न चार्थो न कामो न मोक्षश्चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहं शिवोऽहम्
Meaning · English
Aversion and attachment are not mine, nor greed, delusion, pride or envy. Not duty, wealth, pleasure, nor even liberation. I am consciousness and joy: I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
There are two lists of things the speaker is not. The first is the moods that move through a person: dislike and clinging, greed and confusion, pride, envy. They come and go, and none of them is who he is. The second is the four things a life traditionally aims at: doing right, earning, enjoying, and being set free. Even freedom is on the 'not' list. What is left is awareness and joy, and that is called Shiva.
A bathroom mirror shows a scowling face in the morning and a grinning one at night. Neither face sticks to the glass, and the mirror never becomes angry or cheerful. Greed, pride and envy pass across a person the same way. They show clearly while they last, and the awareness showing them stays clean.

द्वेष और राग मेरे नहीं हैं, न लोभ, न मोह, न अभिमान, न ईर्ष्या। न धर्म, न धन, न सुख, न ही मोक्ष। मैं चेतना और आनंद हूँ: मैं शिव हूँ, मैं शिव हूँ।
बोलने वाला जो नहीं है, उसकी दो सूचियाँ हैं। पहली सूची उन भावों की है जो मनुष्य के भीतर से गुज़रते हैं: अरुचि और आसक्ति, लोभ और भ्रम, अभिमान, ईर्ष्या। ये आते-जाते रहते हैं, और इनमें से कोई भी वह नहीं है जो वह स्वयं है। दूसरी सूची उन चार बातों की है जिन्हें परंपरा से जीवन का लक्ष्य माना गया है: सही करना, कमाना, भोगना और मुक्त होना। मुक्ति भी 'नहीं' वाली सूची में है। जो बचता है वह है बोध और आनंद, और उसी को शिव कहा जाता है।
स्नानघर का दर्पण सुबह भौंहें चढ़ा चेहरा दिखाता है और रात को हँसता हुआ चेहरा। कोई भी चेहरा दर्पण पर चिपकता नहीं, और दर्पण कभी क्रोधित या प्रसन्न नहीं होता। लोभ, अभिमान और ईर्ष्या भी मनुष्य पर से इसी तरह गुज़र जाते हैं। जब तक रहते हैं, साफ़ दिखते हैं, और उन्हें दिखाने वाली चेतना निर्मल बनी रहती है।
