यस्यैव स्फुरणं सदात्मकमसत्कल्पार्थकं भासते साक्षात्तत्त्वमसीति वेदवचसा यो बोधयत्याश्रितान् । यत्साक्षात्करणाद्भवेन्न पुनरावृत्तिर्भवाम्भोनिधौ तस्मै श्रीगुरुमूर्तये नम इदं श्रीदक्षिणामूर्तये
Meaning · English
His light alone, real in itself, shines as passing things. He teaches those who come, 'You are That.' Knowing him, none returns to birth's sea. Salutations to Dakshinamurti, the teacher.
Everything around us looks solid, yet none of it holds being on its own. What makes a cup or a mountain show up at all is his shining, which is simply existence itself. The teacher's method is one line from the Veda, 'you are that.' He gives it to those who come to him, and it points them at their own being. Once that is seen directly, and not just heard, there is no going back into the restless sea of birth and death.
In a dark cinema, a whole street fills the screen: cars, rain, faces. None of it is on the screen by itself. One steady beam from the back of the hall makes every shape show up. The passing things of the world are those shapes. The being they borrow from is that beam.

केवल उनका प्रकाश, जो अपने आप में सत्य है, आने-जाने वाली वस्तुओं के रूप में चमकता है। जो उनके पास आते हैं, उन्हें वे सिखाते हैं, 'तुम वही हो।' उन्हें जानकर कोई फिर जन्म के सागर में नहीं लौटता। गुरु दक्षिणामूर्ति को नमन।
हमारे चारों ओर सब कुछ ठोस दिखता है, फिर भी उसमें से कुछ भी अपने बल पर अस्तित्व नहीं रखता। प्याला हो या पर्वत, कुछ भी दिखाई देता है तो उन्हीं के प्रकाश से, जो स्वयं अस्तित्व ही है। गुरु की विधि वेद का एक वाक्य है, 'तुम वही हो।' जो उनके पास आते हैं, उन्हें वे यही वाक्य देते हैं, और यह उन्हें उनके अपने अस्तित्व की ओर ले जाता है। जब यह केवल सुना ही नहीं, बल्कि प्रत्यक्ष देख लिया जाता है, तब जन्म और मृत्यु के अशांत सागर में फिर लौटना नहीं होता।
अँधेरे सिनेमाघर में परदे पर पूरी एक सड़क उभर आती है: गाड़ियाँ, बारिश, चेहरे। इनमें से कुछ भी अपने आप परदे पर नहीं है। हॉल के पीछे से आती एक स्थिर किरण ही हर आकार को दिखाई देने देती है। संसार की आने-जाने वाली वस्तुएँ वही आकार हैं। जिस अस्तित्व को वे उधार लेती हैं, वह वही किरण है।
