Meaning · English

Like a lamp in a pot full of holes, his knowing streams out through the senses. The whole world shines after him, who shines as "I know." Homage to him.

Knowing is one light sitting inside. The eyes, ears and other senses are only the holes it comes out through. It looks like many lights because there are many openings, but it is one. Whenever anything is known, the plain sense "I know" is already there first. That is the light itself shining. A cup, a face or a bird's call shows up only because that light is already on. The world has no shine of its own. It shines after him.

In a dark yard at night, a flashlight sweeps across a bicycle, a fence and a sleeping cat. Each one appears the moment the beam reaches it and drops back into dark when the beam moves on. None of them lit itself. The knowing works the same way: it shines first, and everything becomes visible only by catching it.
