विश्वं पश्यति कार्यकारणतया स्वस्वामिसम्बन्धतः शिष्याचार्यतया तथैव पितृपुत्राद्यात्मना भेदतः । स्वप्ने जाग्रति वा य एष पुरुषो मायापरिभ्रामितः तस्मै श्रीगुरुमूर्तये नम इदं श्रीदक्षिणामूर्तये
Meaning · English
The person spun around by illusion, waking or dreaming, sees the world split: cause and effect, owner and owned, student and teacher, father and son. Salutation to Dakshinamurti, the guru.
We sort everything into pairs. This causes that. This is mine and I own it. I am the student, she is the teacher. He is the father, I am the son. The hymn says the one doing all this sorting has been spun around by illusion. The spinning goes on whether we are awake or dreaming. The pairs feel solid, but they come from the spinning. The salutation goes to the guru, Dakshinamurti.
A child spins in circles on the lawn and then stops. The trees seem to swing past, the fence tilts and the ground lurches. Nothing in the yard moved. The motion is in the child's head. The splits we see, cause from effect, owner from owned, parent from child, are like that swaying: vivid to the dizzy eye, absent from the yard.

माया से घुमाया हुआ मनुष्य, जागते हुए या सपने में, संसार को बँटा हुआ देखता है: कारण और कार्य, स्वामी और संपत्ति, शिष्य और गुरु, पिता और पुत्र। गुरु दक्षिणामूर्ति को नमस्कार।
हम हर चीज़ को जोड़ों में बाँट देते हैं। यह उसका कारण है। यह मेरा है और मैं इसका स्वामी हूँ। मैं शिष्य हूँ, वह गुरु है। वह पिता है, मैं पुत्र हूँ। स्तोत्र कहता है कि यह सारा बँटवारा करने वाला माया से घुमाया गया है। यह घूमना चलता रहता है, चाहे हम जाग रहे हों या सपना देख रहे हों। जोड़े ठोस लगते हैं, पर वे इसी घूमने से उपजते हैं। नमस्कार गुरु दक्षिणामूर्ति को है।
एक बच्चा आँगन की घास पर गोल-गोल घूमता है और फिर रुक जाता है। पेड़ झूमते हुए पास से गुज़रते लगते हैं, बाड़ तिरछी हो जाती है और धरती डगमगाती है। आँगन में कुछ भी नहीं हिला। गति बच्चे के सिर में है। जो बँटवारे हम देखते हैं, कारण से कार्य, स्वामी से संपत्ति, माता-पिता से संतान, वे उसी डोलने जैसे हैं: चकराई आँख को साफ़ दिखते, आँगन में कहीं नहीं।
