Rig Veda 10.151.3
Meaning · English
As the gods held firm faith toward the mighty Asuras, so make what we have spoken come true for the generous ones who offer worship.
Faith is the steady trust that makes an act of giving complete rather than an empty gesture. The seer reaches back to an old story. When the gods faced the Asuras, beings of great strength, they acted with full and serious conviction. Sāyaṇa reads that conviction as a firm resolve that the Asuras must be overcome, while Griffith reads it as faith placed in them. The request follows the same pattern: let that weight of trust stand behind generous worshippers, and let the prayer spoken for them come true.
A handshake at a market stall seals a sale only when both people mean it. The same grip without intent is just two hands touching. The seer asks for that kind of intent to stand behind the givers' offerings, so the words said over them carry the weight the gods once brought to their struggle.
