Ruler of Every Source
Shvetashvatara Upanishad 4.11
Meaning · English
The One who rules over every source of birth, in whom all this gathers and scatters: seeing that Lord, the gift-giver, God worth praising, one comes to lasting peace.
One being is in charge of every place where anything is born: every womb, every seed, every origin. The whole world comes together inside that one and comes apart inside it again. That one is then given four names: ruler, giver of good things, God, and the one worth praising. Whoever sees this one clearly arrives at a peace that does not run out. The word for seeing means looking closely until something is recognized. Nothing else is promised, only that peace.
Picture a tree through a year. Buds open on hundreds of branches in spring, leaves fill out, and in autumn they all drop. Every leaf grew from the same trunk and falls back near its root. The many sources of birth are like those buds. The One is the trunk they all rise from and return to.
