Uddhava, the field of ritual action has no end and no farther shore. I will tell it to you briefly, in its proper order. My sacrifice is of three kinds: Vedic, Tantric, and mixed. Whichever of the three a person prefers, by that method let him worship me well.

Three words carry this teaching. Karmakanda joins karma, action, from kri, to do, with kanda, a section or branch. It is the part of the tradition made of rites, each with its own steps. Makha means a sacrifice or offering made as a formal rite. Trividha means threefold. Krishna says the rites have no end and no far shore. No one could list them all, so he promises a short account in the right order. The three kinds are Vedic, Tantric and mixed. Vedic rites follow the Vedas. Tantric rites follow the Tantric manuals. Mixed rites draw on both. Then comes the instruction: by whichever method a person favours, let that person worship Krishna fully. He does not rank the three or ask anyone to switch. Uddhava had asked how Krishna should be worshipped, and the answer begins by shrinking an impossible subject to a usable one. A learner might fear that the whole body of ritual must be mastered first. Krishna says it need not. Choose the method that suits you, and what matters is that the worship is done properly and is aimed at him.

A family cooks the same dal three ways: the grandmother's, the in-laws', and a blend of the two. Each kitchen has its own steps, and the guests are fed in all of them. The three kinds of rite are those kitchens, and the one hunger they all answer is the wish to reach Krishna.

1. Tonight, pick one small way of offering that already feels natural to you: a lamp, a flower, or a spoken name. 2. Do only that, once, for two minutes, at the same hour. 3. Do not borrow steps from other methods you have heard about. 4. Afterwards, notice whether doing one thing fully felt different from doing many things halfway.

A grandmother has moved to her son's flat in a new city. Her own mother lit the lamp one way, her husband's family another, and now she stands at the shelf wondering if she is doing it wrong. She half decides to skip it until she can ask someone. The verse changes that moment in steps. First, it tells her the whole body of ritual is too vast for anyone to finish, so not knowing all of it is the usual state. Second, Krishna names three recognised ways and lets a person worship by the one she prefers. Third, her family's way is already one of them, and she can light the lamp. Ordinary experience bears out that people keep up a practice more steadily when it feels like their own. The verse does not say every detail is unimportant, and it does not settle which method is right for a given person. It also does not ease the loneliness of a new place, which a flat's shelf cannot do alone.
