Rama Raksha Stotram 8
Meaning · English
May the lord of Sugriva guard my waist, the master of Hanuman my hips; may the best of the Raghus, who brings down the demon clans, guard my thighs.
The prayer keeps moving down the body, now to the waist, the hips and the thighs. Each part is placed under a different name for Rama. He is Sugriva's lord, the one the monkey king looked to as his protector. He is Hanuman's master, the one Hanuman served. He is the finest of the Raghu family line. And he is the one who ends the clans of demons. Three of the four names describe him through the people around him or the work he did.
A parent buttons a child's coat before school. The parent starts at the collar and works down, one button at a time, and skips none. The hymn fastens the body the same way. The top buttons are already done, and now the hands reach the waist, the hips and the thighs, each closed with its own name of Rama.
