Rama Raksha Stotram 9

Meaning · English

May the bridge-builder protect my knees, the slayer of the ten-headed one my shins, the giver of Vibhishana's fortune my feet; may Rama protect my whole body.

The list reaches the bottom of the body, and each part again gets a name of Rama drawn from his campaign against Lanka. The knees go to the one who built the bridge across the sea. The shins go to the one who ended the ten-headed king. The feet go to the one who gave Vibhishana the royal fortune. Then the counting stops, and one line hands over the whole body at once, so nothing the list skipped is left out.

Someone locking up for the night walks the house: the back door, the kitchen window, the side gate, each checked by hand. Then, at the front, they turn the one key that bolts the whole place. The named knees, shins and feet are the rounds; the closing line is that final key.
