What the Reciter Receives
Rama Raksha Stotram 10
Meaning · English
Whoever does good and recites this protection, filled with Rama's strength, becomes long-lived, happy, blessed with sons, victorious, and humble.
The hymn now turns from the body being guarded to the person reading the words. What has just been recited is called a protection, and its strength is Rama's own, not the reciter's. The reciter is described as someone who does good. The hymn names five things it brings: a long life, happiness, sons, victory, and humility. The last two sit side by side on purpose. Winning is paired with modesty, so the victor the hymn describes is also a gentle one.
Picture a heavy wool coat handed down from a father. The child who wears it into the winter stays warm, though the thick weave and careful stitching are not the child's work. Putting it on is the child's only part. Reciting the hymn is that putting on. The strength woven into the words belongs to Rama.
