Hidden From Every Threat

Rama Raksha Stotram 11

Meaning · English

Those who roam the underworld, the earth and the sky, and those who move in disguise, cannot even catch sight of one guarded by Rama's names.

The hymn names every place a threat could come from: below the ground, on the ground, and in the air. Then it adds one more kind, those who move in disguise, the dangers nobody would recognise as dangers. None of them can harm the person protected by Rama's names. More than that, they cannot even see that person. They never find their target at all. The word is names, plural. Rama called by his many names is what does the guarding.

Picture a mirrored window on a tall office building. From the street, from a rooftop across the road, from a passing helicopter, all anyone sees is reflected sky. The person at the desk inside is in plain view of nobody. The names work like that glass. The one inside is there, but whatever looks for them sees only the covering.
