The Thunderbolt Cage
Rama Raksha Stotram 14
Meaning · English
Whoever keeps in mind this armor of Rama, called the Thunderbolt Cage, finds his word unopposed wherever he goes, and gains victory and all that is auspicious.
The hymn gives itself a name now. It calls itself the Thunderbolt Cage: armor made of the hardest thing there is, closed on every side. 'Remembers' is the act asked for, keeping the words in mind, not only owning them. Two fruits follow, in the hymn's own words. The person's command meets no block anywhere, so what they set out to say or do is not turned back. And they receive victory joined with auspiciousness, a winning that also goes well.
Picture the steel roll cage welded inside a rally car. From the outside you barely notice the bars. When the car rolls into a ditch, the panels crumple but the bars hold, and the driver climbs out. The cage does not steer; it keeps a space around the person whole. The hymn names itself that kind of frame, carried in memory.
