Garden, Rest and Delight

Rama Raksha Stotram 16

Meaning · English

He is a garden of wish-granting trees, the end of every trouble, the delight of the three worlds. That Rama, full of splendour, is our Lord.

Three titles, and in the original each one rings with the sound of his name. First, a garden of wish-granting trees: not a single tree that answers a wish, but a whole grove of them in one place. Second, the stopping point of every trouble, where misfortune runs out and goes no further. Third, the delight of earth, sky and the worlds beyond, the one all of them are glad to see. Then the line settles. This Rama, full of splendour, is our own master.

Picture a full stop at the end of a long, tangled sentence. Everything before it keeps running on, clause after clause. The small dot is where it halts and the sense comes clear. Rama stands to trouble the way that dot stands to the sentence. He is the point where it ends.
